NCTE Back to School Webinar: Student Voices
Alvin Curry Monte, a senior at Aiken High School and active leader in the Aiken BLTN NextGen network, spoke at the NCTE members’ meeting. He spoke as part of NCTE's "Back to School" webinar panel to add his voice as a student leader to the consideration of safety in schools, his perceptions of students' needs, and students' concerns. Maven Kayla Hostetler said “Monte was a powerful speaker during the webinar. He shared how overwhelming school is currently from a student's perspective. He shared his fears of no mask mandates being present at his school. He reminded me of how much students are struggling in such a difficult time." |

Changemakers and Filmmakers: Vermont and South Carolina Students Learn from One Another
A team of youth changemakers gathered in February 2020 at Aiken High School in Aiken, South Carolina, to learn elements of documentary filmmaking. This cross-site sharing and learning is part of the BLTN’s Next Generation Leadership Network and was supported by the SNAVE, Bay and Paul, and Write to Change foundations. |
